Thanksgiving is funny. It’s the only holiday that has become completely disassociated from its origins. Sure…we still see icons of Pilgrims and Indians in ad campaigns and school yards but no one ever says--"Let's all take a moment to reflect on the contributions of those guys with the cool shoe buckles"--while they’re sitting around the turkey table. Now that I think about it; that’s largely why I like the holiday. It’s all about family and traditions--that don’t go back any further than the oldest person sitting at the table.
If you’re not as warm and fuzzy as the rest of us you can still have fun at the table this holiday. For instance, when everyone goes around to say what they are Thankful for, say, "I'm thankful I didn't get caught" then sit down, slowly, and refuse to say anything more. Or you can take the so-cal approach and only talk about the tragic and abusive conditions known to exist at turkey farms…people really love that when they're hungry.
